The Different Kinds of Juvederm
There are eight types of Juvederm, each with their own benefits and areas of effect:
- Juvederm XC
- Ultra XC
- Ultra 2, 3, and 4
- Voluma XC
- Volbella XC
- Vollure XC
These hyaluronic fillers are all cut from the same stone and are amongst the highest rated products on the market. While they all focus on different areas, they all have the goal of smoothing out wrinkles and rejuvenating your face. But what’s the difference?
The original Juvederm XC is an injectable gel that offers immensely positive results on its own. Taking it a step further, we have the Ultra products that do not contain hyaluronic acids and make greater efforts in the pursuit of comfort. While Ultra 2 specifically handles the corners of your eyes, Ultra 3 focuses on contouring and fixing facial lines. Ultra 4 is more focused on dealing with more severe wrinkles as well as adding volume to your face.
Then there are the 3 “V” fillers. Voluma XC emphasizes an increase in volume while tackling those more intense wrinkles. Volbella is a more subtle filler that uses hyaluronic acid to give your lips a more natural-looking appearance. Combining the two, we get Vollure XC, which has been documented as the longest-lasting dermal filler out of all these options.
What type of Juvederm is Best for Lips?
You want the best for your lips and so do we. Juvederm Ultra XC has been, for a while now, the crowd favorite when it comes to giving your lips a fuller look, but Volbella XC, being one of the newest products on the market right now, is also a strong contender.
Some praise Ultra XC for its consistency and comfort, while others praise Volbella XC for handling vertical lines and wrinkles around the lip area. The latter of the two provides a very subtle lip enhancement that smooths but looks very natural, while the former is more of a traditional look.
If you’re looking for something that lasts a little bit longer, Volbella XC is a good choice; but if you’re looking for the most comfortable experience that offers enhanced and younger-looking lips, then Ultra XC may be for you.
Everything You Need to Know
It’s important to talk about the process and some things you may have overlooked. A typical reason to use dermal fillers is to plump up skin that isn’t as full as it used to be, which is a natural change that occurs with aging. As you age, the amount of collagen and hyaluronic acids, which keep your skin tight and youthful-looking, decreases. Dermal fillers work by injecting hyaluronic acid into the affected area, stabilizing these regions for anywhere between six months and two years, depending on the product.
Your wrinkles and fine lines will then be smoothed out, giving you an almost instantaneous refreshed and youthful look. In many cases, this product is combined with Botox to accentuate its effects. With that said, here are some things you should know about the process before we figure out which type is the best one for you:
It Isn’t Permanent
One thing that’s worth noting about the process is that it comes with an expiration date. While dermal fillers give you a smooth and youthful look for up to two years following the treatment, they won’t last forever. In fact, most treatments only last for about one year max, and only a few go beyond that, so going in for another dermal filler might be necessary eventually.
Minor Post-Treatment Care
After you get your injection, there isn’t much else to it. You can go ahead and live your life with more confidence, but that isn’t to say you should just neglect your lips. Just like with any minor injection, a filler requires a mild amount of care. Before and after your injection, the doctor may or may not put some ice on your lips. Whether you should continue doing so at home is up to the doctor, but you will be advised to remember a few things. Aspirin is typically something you want to avoid, for example, and stay away from straws!
You Won’t Always Bruise
You may have heard that you shouldn’t drink wine before or after your treatment as this can cause bruising. This is entirely a case-by-case situation, as you won’t always bruise. It really depends on the person. You will typically be advised to limit your alcohol intake, apply ice, avoid ibuprofen, and absolutely resist the urge to touch your lips. Soon after the injection, however, you can go back to living your life exactly how you did before, but with more confidence.
