Our Philosophy
Radiance emanates from personal health and wellness. At AURAE MD, the emphasis is on you as a whole individual. Addressing the underlying reasons for a specific concern optimizes achieving a sense of well-being. A complimentary balance emerges. When we feel vibrant, we eat better, exercise more, and take better care of ourselves. In return, when we feel healthy and energetic, we want our appearance to reflect that vitality.
“Health results from optimizing our genetics, environment, and lifestyle. With this understanding, we can stimulate our body’s regenerative power.”
Dr. Margo Aura Emami
Accepted at age seventeen into an intensive combined BS/MD program at Northeast Ohio Medical University, Dr. Emami graduated summa cum laude in 1990 with honors in biochemistry and psychiatry. She completed an internship including surgery, internal medicine, and psychiatry at Boston University’s Framingham Union Hospital, and continued to the Harvard Teaching Hospital system, for a residency in Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management.
Upon completion of her training in 1994, Dr. Emami moved to San Diego. She set up a perioperative medicine clinic preparing patients for extensive plastic, reconstructive, and orthopedic cases as well as providing continuing care for those patients during and after surgery. Dr. Emami also established a pain management practice and was consulted by numerous surgical facilities to set up and head their anesthesia departments. For over thirty years, Dr. Emami has medically managed patients through their surgical procedures with a holistic, integrative philosophy. It was apparent that a comprehensive approach to the patient was not only needed but vital for well-being and longevity.
Numerous patients requesting that she continue as their personal physician, motivated her to pursue a patient-centered paradigm of prevention and less invasive regenerative techniques. Completing advanced fellowships in Anti-aging, Regenerative, and Integrative Medicine as well as Aesthetic Anti-Aging Medicine, Dr. Emami is board certified through the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Coming from a medical family with a deep tradition in the mind-body connection and “food as medicine,” Dr. Emami believes in mindful living. She is a devoted yoga practitioner, a trained dancer, certified in TRX suspension training, and a proponent of functional exercise to prevent injury and maintain strength, balance, and flexibility.
FAQ
How do I know personalized medicine will work for me?
We are like medical puzzles made up of millions of subtle, biologic interactions: some well studied, some just beginning to be discovered. Personalized, functional medicine is a process that evaluates your individual genetics, lifestyle, and environment to uncover underlying causes of symptoms. Once you have that awareness, it becomes about instituting effective and actionable change. This takes commitment and patience. AURAE MD is here to uncover your personal blueprint, and give you the knowledge, guidance, and care to optimize your health. The greatest success comes from adhering to and believing in the process of achieving well-being.
What is your cancellation policy?
Dr. Emami believes that every patient should have the time that they need in a relaxed, confidential appointment. Therefore, significant time is set aside just for you and only you. Short notice cancellations affect the ability of other patients to access care, and therefore a 7-day cancellation notice is required for new patients and a 2-day notice for existing patients. There is a 50% office charge for no shows or late cancellations.

How do I send you my medical records?
Medical records can only be released with your authorization. We kindly ask that you obtain previous medical records from other facilities or health care providers at least 7 days before your initial consultation. Your medical records can be mailed or faxed to our office at 858-793-7620 or uploaded directly to your patient portal if you are a registered patient.
Do I have to buy my supplements from you?
There are no requirements that you purchase supplements from AURAE MD, only that you use the ones recommended or approved. AURAE MD researches and selects the highest quality, purest supplements to ensure therapeutic results and reduce potential reactions. There is no FDA regulation of supplements, so there is a risk of getting substandard or contaminated products otherwise.
What happens if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?
AURAE MD will continue to support you by providing medical records with your permission, and working with your primary care physician and/or specialist. If it is felt during your consultation, that a specialist referral is indicated for a particular health concern, we will assist you with that as well.
Can you be my primary care doctor?
It is important to continue your relationship with your primary care doctor for routine screening exams such as physical exams, pap smears, mammograms, colonoscopies, prostate exams, vaccinations, acute illness care, and emergency situations requiring immediate attention or hospitalization. If you have a team of specialists, please continue to see them as needed.
What kind of labs do you do?
During your consultation, Dr. Emami will determine which tests are needed and then review the testing recommendations, instructions, and cost. Some testing can be performed at home with test kits. Others may require you to go to a local laboratory such as Quest or LabCorp for a blood test. Patients may also choose to use a concierge lab draw service that will conveniently come to your home for a nominal fee.
Do you take insurance?
AURAE MD focuses on building optimal health. Your appointments give you the extra time and attention to address all of your concerns, not just the symptoms of illness. For this reason, insurance companies will not cover this extent of care.
